McIsaac, Mary Bohan

Mary Bohan McIsaac, 81 years old, died Friday April 15, 2005, due to complications from a severe stroke in May of 2004. Daughter of the late Jamison and Mary “Mame” Bowen McIsaac; cousin of Ronald (Elaine) Cummings. Born and raised in Evanston, IL, Mary McIsaac spent her adult life as a resident of Chicago’s Lakeview community. Teacher, archivist, fundraiser, culture devotee, Ms. McIsaac lived a full, varied and cosmopolitan life. After graduating from Rosary College, Ms. McIsaac spent several years as a teacher in the Chicago Public School System, teaching at both Von Stuben High School and the Nettelhorst Elementary School. Seeking different opportunities, and one that brought her close to her deep interest in fine art, Ms. McIsaac received her Master’s Degree from Northwestern University and worked for many years as an archivist at the Art Institute of Chicago.
After retiring, she spent countless hours volunteering for that same museum. Even after a severe accident in 2004, Mary went with her walker and companion to fulfill her volunteer obligations at her beloved “AI”. Besides serving that Chicago institution, “Queeno”, as her close friends referred to her, was a long-time member of the Lyric Opera Guild Board of Directors in its early and formative years, a tireless champion of the English Speaking Union, and a devoted sponsor of the British Home and Daughters of the British Empire. Next to serving the arts community in Chicago, Ms. McIsaac loved world travel - with frequent trips to Europe, in addition to Israel, Egypt, Turkey and her beloved New England. She will return to Maine, from whence her roots sprang, to be laid to rest with her parents. Generous, witty, warm-hearted and fun, Mary “Queeno” McIsaac will be missed and remembered with love and affection by all who knew her.
